The European Institute for the Media in cooperation with the Estonian
Newspaper Association has organised a training course for Estonian
journalists and editors on the state-of-art Internet applications
for the media. The course was held in Tallinn on 28 May - 1 June
2001. The project is part of the EIM‘s programme on media and democratic
institutions in central and eastern Europe, which is supported by
the European Commission.
The EIM invited chief editor of the DM-Online, Mr Frank Syr?, to
conduct the course on its behalf. DM-Online is part of the Handelsblatt
publishing group. On the ground, the project was supported by the
Association’s managing director, Mr Tarmu Tammerk.
The five-day course focused on the specific content skills which
are relevant for the news stories and webradio and TV alike. The
course paid particular attention to the new skills required of the
multi-channel editor and multi-media news formats. A special part
of the course looked into the financial and marketing aspects of
the on-line publications, including adsales, content sales as well
as content syndication, subscription, microbilling, etc.
