Tallinn, January 13, 2006 – The Estonian Press
Council, the self-regulatory body for the media, and the national
court, will organise a round-table discussion between journalists and
judges in order to have an exchange of information of how the two
parties see each other's role in informing the public about court
proceedings.
The round-table meeting will take place in the
national court in Tartu on March 23, 2006, and is aimed at court
reporters and judges from all over the country.
The round-table has the following panel
discussions: relations between the justice system and the media; court
reporters in the courtroom – with or without cameras; media's effect
on rendering justice; presumption of innocence.
Journalists will be offered a chance to visit
courts in Tartu while judges will be taken to excursions to newspaper
offices and TVstations.
